The list is always growing;\u00a0 won&#8217;t you help its doing so?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frisbee Golf aka Disc Golf<\/strong> &#8212; It&#8217;s generally free, and it&#8217;s a great way to get out and enjoy a fine day without buying much more than a Frisbee.\u00a0 When I first heard about it, it was called Frisbee golf, but the sport (and it&#8217;s become one, oh yes) has progressed to many forms of thrown-things, so now it&#8217;s more often called disc golf.\u00a0 There are courses all over the metro area, so buy your disc get out and have some good times!\u00a0 If you win, yay you!\u00a0 Here is a listing of some of the local courses provided by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhdgc.org\/courses\">Mile High Disc Golf Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Kit-Carson-County-Carousel.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-627\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Kit-Carson-County-Carousel-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"Kit Carson County Carousel\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Kit-Carson-County-Carousel-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Kit-Carson-County-Carousel-768x498.jpg 768w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Kit-Carson-County-Carousel-1024x664.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Kit Carson County Carousel<\/strong> &#8212; Yes, you have to drive to Burlington, but it&#8217;s completely worth it.\u00a0 The Kit Carson County Carousel is one of the last carousels from the great era of carousels left around, and it&#8217;s a fine piece of art and a beautiful ride.\u00a0 There is a museum attached, and the fair grounds are there.\u00a0 It&#8217;s usually open in the summer only.\u00a0 If you want to maximize your visit, go during the Kit Carson County Fair, which is usually toward the end of July.\u00a0 They have lots going on, and it&#8217;s a hoot.\u00a0 On the first day of the fair, they usually have free BBQ, so it you&#8217;re a meat-eater, it&#8217;s the day to attend!\u00a0 Here&#8217;s information on the <a href=\"http:\/\/kitcarsoncountycarousel.com\/\">carousel<\/a>, and for information on the county (and its fair), click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitcarsoncounty.org\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_308\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/2009-6-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-308\" class=\"wp-image-308 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/2009-6-4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Go! Just watch out for the wringers!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Washing Machine Museum<\/strong> &#8212; Ok, we start with the most amazing of them all.\u00a0 Most people, when hearing about this place, look at me as if I have just admitted to being a commoner (not true, of course, but that&#8217;s what they are thinking), but the Washing Machine Museum really\u00a0 is one of the most astounding things on earth.\u00a0 You do have to get a group and there is a cost, but it rocks all the way to the deadly wringers.\u00a0 You&#8217;d better go now, too, because once the owner shuffles off to that Maytag Repair Store in the sky, it will ALL likely go in the trash.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just north of Greeley and worth every moment.\u00a0 Get your brain sparkly clean at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldewash.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washing Machine Museum<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rocky Mountain Arsenal<\/strong> &#8212; Just north of the Denver metro area is one of the most amazing hidden secrets around, a place you go to see the natural world being restored to its former glory.\u00a0 It&#8217;s free to visit and has lots of great things to do; there&#8217;s even a newsletter talking about all the goings-on (I get it!), with bison, burrowing owls and more &#8230;the refuge, not the newsletter.\u00a0 Time to go wild: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fws.gov\/refuge\/Rocky_Mountain_Arsenal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rocky Mountain Arsenal<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arts to Zoo<\/strong> &#8212; You may thinking that taking a tour focusing on tubes of ice would be BORING, but it is not.\u00a0 It&#8217;s cool, both in the &#8220;WOW!&#8221; sense, and of course in the &#8220;Brrrrr!&#8221; sense.\u00a0 Tours are free, but must be scheduled in advance.\u00a0 After all, it&#8217;s a government installation.\u00a0 Learn and enjoy!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/nicl.usgs.gov\/visit.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Ice Core Laboratory<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bishop Castle<\/strong> &#8212; You might not think that going somewhere to have some oatmeal could be one of the most entertaining things you could do on a\u00a0 Saturday morning, BUT IT IS!\u00a0 Every January, the city of Lafayette has an oatmeal festival, with\u00a0 more than 300 toppings.\u00a0 Yep, you read that right!\u00a0 You have to pay (it goes to a charity, I believe), but it is SO MUCH FUN.\u00a0 Check out the website for more information and mark it on your calendar; I have and you KNOW I will be there: <a href=\"http:\/\/lafayettecolorado.chambermaster.com\/events\/details\/18th-annual-quaker-oatmeal-festival-and-5k-walk-run-1084\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lafayette Oatmeal Festival<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Music at St. John&#8217;s Cathedral<\/strong> &#8212; Located at 1350 Washington, St. John&#8217;s is more than just a beautiful and historic building; they offer a wide selection of music.\u00a0 Some of it is free (such as their <em>Music at Noon<\/em> series), and it&#8217;s all wonderful.\u00a0 Check out the following website: <a href=\"http:\/\/sjcathedral.org\/Music\/ConcertsEvents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. John&#8217;s Music<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>EPA District 8 Office<\/strong> &#8212; Located at the corner of the 16th Street Mall and Wynkoop, the home of the Environmental Protection Agency offers free tours of this fascinating, LEED certified building.\u00a0 Tours must be scheduled in advance, and they are free.\u00a0 Click on the following link and look for the tour request form toward the bottom of the page: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/oaintrnt\/facilities\/denver-hq.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EPA Tour<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Denver Art Museum<\/strong> &#8212; Wow!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>1830s Rendezvous and Spanish Colonial Art Market<\/strong> &#8212; Put on by the folks at the Tesoro Cultural Center, this event takes at the end of September at the Fort, in southwest Denver.\u00a0 A two-day event, the Fort is filled with cooking, crafts and people you would have experienced back in the 1830s, a real treat!\u00a0 It&#8217;s free, though a donation is accepted toward future efforts in Denver&#8217;s art community.\u00a0 Tesoro does other events throughout the year, including\u00a0 the Farolito Lighting Pinecone Ceremony and Las Posadas, both in December and both free.\u00a0 Check it out for some art\u00a0 and fun!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/tesoroculturalcenter.org\/\">Tesoro Cultural Center<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Library Tours<\/strong> &#8212; There&#8217;s more to our public libraries than the written word; they even give tours.\u00a0\u00a0 The main branch of the library, downtown, is the one most people think of for tours, and it&#8217;s entirely worth it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also entirely free.\u00a0 Other branches also offer tours, but you&#8217;ll have to contact them directly to find out what options they might have.\u00a0 Art, architecture, history and, of course, books.\u00a0 Get your thumbs wet and ready to turn the pages of excitement.\u00a0 Sesquipedalian!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/denverlibrary.org\/tours\">Denver Library Tours<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_351\" style=\"width: 213px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-351\" class=\"wp-image-351 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cow-203x300.jpg\" alt=\"Yep, that's cow spit all over my hand. Very cute cow.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Plains Conservation Center<\/strong> &#8212; It may be far from downtown Denver, but it&#8217;s worth the trip!\u00a0 It gives you a chance to learn about the high plains during the mid-1800s, a homestead open to the sky and the wind.\u00a0 Sometimes lots of wind.\u00a0 Free to visit, the Plains Conservation Center also has lots of educational and enjoyable programs that they run.\u00a0 You might even get to feed the chickens and let the cows lick your hands (please wash them before you go somewhere for lunch).\u00a0 A really fine day for folks of all ages, so make plans to see it soon!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plainscenter.org\/\">Plains Conservation Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Money Museum<\/strong> &#8212; In Colorado Springs you&#8217;ll find many things.\u00a0 Among the most interesting, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.money.org\/money-museum\">Money Museum<\/a>, maintained by the American Numismatic Association.\u00a0 Though there IS a cost, it&#8217;s a very\u00a0 interesting place to visit, especially if you&#8217;re a fan of collecting coins yourself!\u00a0 Gold coins, old coins and all the things that go along with them may be found within its walls.\u00a0 Time to enjoy the glittering coins!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vive\u00a0 la France<\/strong> &#8212;\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to speak French to enjoy items at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afdenver.org\/\">Alliance Fran\u00e7aise<\/a>, though it doesn&#8217;t hurt!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Located at 571 Galapago St., this establishment for all things &#8220;francophile&#8221; In the city of Bennett, a short drive east of Denver, is a super cool place to visit, the <a href=\"http:\/\/longhopes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Longhopes Donkey Rescue<\/a>.\u00a0 They have events, and you may even adopt a pair of donkeys if you have the space, as long as you adopt in pairs.\u00a0 The Duchess, Damsel and I went to an open-hour fund raiser there &#8230;what a blast!\u00a0 Check it out sometime and have a cuddly good time!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_380\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Berry-Patch-Farms.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-380\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-380\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Berry-Patch-Farms-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yummy and fresh!\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Berry-Patch-Farms-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Berry-Patch-Farms.jpg 922w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yummy and fresh!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Berry Patch Farms<\/strong> &#8212; Sure, you have to pay\u00a0 for the food, but it&#8217;s fun to pick it and it&#8217;s proven to be right off the vine!\u00a0 During the summer, there are activities for kids, too.\u00a0 Who doesn&#8217;t like to eat fresh fruits and vegetables?\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berrypatchfarms.com\/\">Berry Patch Farms<\/a> would not be the ONLY\u00a0 such entity around,\u00a0 but it&#8217;s one I have visited with great enjoyment.\u00a0 Belly up to the berries!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colorado Film Festivals<\/strong> &#8212;\u00a0 Are you into film?\u00a0 There are many cities around the state which have film festivals.\u00a0 Check out this link to see what might be open for you: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colorado.com\/articles\/colorado-film-festivals\">Film Festivals<\/a>.\u00a0 These usually cost, but offer great scope.\u00a0 In the Denver area, there are usually numerous free film festivals.\u00a0 Each summer is a little different, so you may\u00a0 have to do some research, mapping and planning, but it&#8217;s worth it.\u00a0 There are multiple places you may read all about it, but here&#8217;s one: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denver.org\/what-to-do\/museum-art\/denver-outdoor-summer-movies\">Summer Film Festivals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_391\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/P1070648.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-391\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-391\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/P1070648-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Art is everywhere at the Clyfford Still Museum!\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/P1070648-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/P1070648-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Art is everywhere at the Clyfford Still Museum!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The Clyfford Still Museum<\/strong> &#8212; Not knowing much about art, I nevertheless enjoyed my visit here.\u00a0 The artist&#8217;s full collection is here, rotating from time to time to keep it fresh, so it&#8217;s worth a return visit.\u00a0 More importantly for ME, the building itself is amazing, a piece of art unto itself.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a price for admission, but it&#8217;s worth a go.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t let a visit to Denver pass by without a visit to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clyffordstillmuseum.org\/\">Still<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knock Your Boots Off! Beer Tasting and Chili Cook Off<\/strong> &#8212; I didn&#8217;t go for the beer (eweh!), but tasting all the different kinds of chili was great fun.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a college town, so there are lots of college-aged folks, and it&#8217;s a rousing time.\u00a0 The time the Duchess and I went, they ONLY accepted cash, so come prepared.\u00a0 The Chili Cook Off is an unusual and wonderful way to welcome autumn in the Rockies!\u00a0 You should be able to look up information and the website (which changes, so is not added here) with the Golden Chamber of Commerce.\u00a0 Delicious!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Four Mile Historic Park <\/strong>&#8212; This 1859-house is the oldest in Denver, with attendant out buildings and additional items that highlight life in the 1800s.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fourmilepark.org\/\">Four Mile Historic Park<\/a> also has numerous activities throughout the year, such as learning about Victorian mourning customs, a traditional Fourth of July and a super fun Pumpkin Festival!\u00a0 The museum and some events have a cost, but some events (like the Pumpkin Festival) are free.\u00a0 Entertaining AND educational.\u00a0 Hard to argue with that!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_390\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2005-10-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-390\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2005-10-2-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Learning how to tan an animal hide at the Pumpkin Festival!\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2005-10-2-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2005-10-2.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Learning how to tan an animal hide at the Pumpkin Festival!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highlands Festival<\/strong> &#8212; With caber tossing, trained animals, music, grand processionals, kilts and curls, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotfest.com\/Scottish_Festival\/Home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Highlands Festival<\/a> (usually in early September) is well worth a visit, even if you haven&#8217;t yet kissed the Blarney Stone.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a cost, but this multi-day event is worth a visit.\u00a0 Lots of sheep, which means lots of yarn, which means lots of great crafts.\u00a0 Check it out, aye!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adams County Historical Museum<\/strong> &#8212; This little gem of a museum is located northeast of the downtown area, in what was once more commonly known as the Henderson area.\u00a0 Though generally considered part of the greater Brighton area now, it&#8217;s worth a visit no matter WHAT the address!\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adamscountymuseum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adams County Historical Museum<\/a> is free for general visitors in the main museum.\u00a0 There are also guided tours, for a fee (these must be arranged in advance),\u00a0 which includes a wide collection of historical buildings on the property.\u00a0 What a treat!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_399\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Lariat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-399\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-399\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Lariat-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"These mighty monoliths mark the entry to the Lariat Loop from Golden.\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Lariat-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Lariat-1024x585.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Lariat.jpg 1089w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-399\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">These mighty monoliths mark the entry to the Lariat Loop from Golden.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Lariat Loop<\/strong> &#8212; This scenic byway, on our own doorstep, features numerous historical and natural wonders.\u00a0 Make a day of it and explore, from Golden to Red Rocks.\u00a0 Much of the wisdom of my royal domain&#8217;s early elders is visible here.\u00a0 Not one to miss, and the drive is free!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lariatloop.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lariat Loop<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Boulder, you may visit the <strong>National Center for Atmospheric Research<\/strong>.\u00a0 This monumental (truly) excellent building on the hill, designed to look as if it is part of the Flatirons, offers free tours of their scientific research.\u00a0 You need to set them up in advance, but it&#8217;s fun for all ages, and the place has a groovy 60s feel to it, because that is when it was built.\u00a0 Give <a href=\"http:\/\/ncar.ucar.edu\/\">NCAR <\/a>a try, and while you&#8217;re there, enjoy the view of the city and prairie below!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_452\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2003-2-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-452\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-452\" src=\"https:\/\/denverhistorytours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2003-2-2-300x264.jpg\" alt=\"Which one is Buffalo Bill?
